The following is the overall syllabus for UvA Talen Arabic 2, January–March 2019. The syllabus is based on a previous course and will be updated each week with current information as the course progresses.
Please write to your instructor if for some reason you cannot attend class.
If you do not pass the final exam or cannot attend class on the day of the final exam, the make-up exam or resit can be taken on either 27 March or 2 April from 19:00 to 21:00 at UvA Talen, Roetersstraat 25.
Please try to miss as few classes as possible, not more than two in order to be eligible for the final exam.
In Mastering Arabic, Unit 7, exercise 6, on p. 91, reference is made to ابن سينا, known in the West by his Latin name Avicenna. You can read more about this historical figure, sometimes called “the father of modern medicine”, on Wikipedia in English or in Dutch.
Do exercises 7 and 11 in Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 8. They’re not very exciting, but they will help you learn to spell some recent vocabulary and use the grammar. You do not need to hand these assignments in to your teacher. Remember that there is an answer key in the back of the book if you get stuck.
Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 9: Read all the explanations. Familiarize yourself with the countries on the first page and those listed in the vocabulary section. Learn the vocabulary after the nationalities in the vocabulary section.
Reread أنا وأخي. Next time we may do an activity using the new vocabulary.
Reread the conversation in Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 10, on page 126. Also do the exercise 130, which you have to think about and then do with the audio. You will then practise this in class live with a partner.
Prepare Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 11: Read the explanations and learn the vocabulary.
Not yet updated.
Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 11.
Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 11: Read the conversation on page 143; next time we will practise this as in the pink box on the same page. Do exercises 7, 8, 9, and 11.
