In Mastering Arabic, Unit 7, exercise 6, on p. 91, reference is made to ابن سينا, known in the West by his Latin name Avicenna. You can read more about this historical figure, sometimes called “the father of modern medicine”, on Wikipedia in English or in Dutch.
Do exercises 10 and 11 in Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 8. You do not need to hand these assignments in to your teacher. Remember that there is an answer key in the back of the book if you get stuck.
Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 9: Read all the explanations. Familiarize yourself with the countries on the first page and those listed in the vocabulary section. Learn the vocabulary after the nationalities in the vocabulary section.

Reread the conversation in Mastering Arabic 1, Unit 10, on page 126. Also do the exercise on page 130, which you have to think about and then do with the audio. You may practise this in class live with a partner.
